How to live according to your values

Do you live according to your values?

Values are your ‘must-haves’ for living a life that is full and satisfying to YOU.

Understanding and living your values is FUNDAMENTAL to having a fulfilling and purposeful life.

AND, if you think they aren’t important to your body confidence, think again!

In this post, I’m explaining why living your values has a beneficial effect on the way you feel about your body.

Watch or read below:

Values are the things that you believe are important in the way you live your life.  They can be things like security, happiness, independence, fairness, positivity, generosity, etc.

When you’re living life in line with your personal values, you’re likely to feel happy and fulfilled.

BUT when life doesn’t feel happy or fulfilling it’s usually a sign that your values are being violated.

Values and body image

Now you might wonder what all this has got to do with body image.  Well, as I’ve said before, body confidence work is about more than the way you feel about your body.

Body dissatisfaction is often a smoke screen. In reality, it isn’t the way you feel about your body that’s the problem, but the way you feel about your life.

Your body becomes the target for everything else you’re not happy with, but don’t want to face because it seems too hard or difficult.

Getting to the bottom of what’s most important to you in the way you live your life means that you can focus on living a more purposeful life.

When you do this, you have a much better chance of experiencing the fulfilment that you seek.

I also believe that if you are living life according to what’s most important to you, you’re less likely to suffer body anxiety and dissatisfaction too.

What’s important to you?

So to help you gain an understanding of what’s most important to you, I’ve got a very quick exercise for you to try.

All you have to do is ask yourself, “How would I like to be remembered?”

This question will get to the heart of what you value most.

For me, I’d like to be remembered as someone who was kind, generous, fair, and who made a difference in the lives of the people that I loved and worked with.

Write down as many things as come up for you and then ask yourself how you are living these values today? If you’re not, what can you do to bring them into your life?

I’d love to know what your core values are and how you’re making sure that they are a part of your life.  Please leave a comment below.
